This week I am excited to share with you another summer crochet pattern, the Honeycomb Bee Cozy. This cute pattern is a great cozy for putting around all those cold drinks this summer, it works up quickly and is a great stash busting project too; the whole project used less than 15g of yarn. Not only did this pattern cross off another stash busting goal, but also ticked off another Tunisian crochet project too.
This pattern is worked in one of my favourite stitches, the Tunisian Honeycomb Stitch and the colours I chose to use colours that reminded me of honey in a bee hive, amber for the top and yellow for the background. This part of the cozy is worked in the round and there is a helpful tutorial on getting started in the round in Tunisian crochet. Although the video only uses the simple stitch, it should give you an idea of how to do it if you are not familiar. I hope to get a few more Tunisian tutorials up on my channel over the summer months.
Once I had the Honeycomb effect of the bee hive made for the main cozy, it was onto making some bee motives. These are small and quick to make and really make the cozy feel more like a little bee hive. I added two bees flying in different directions, but you could easily add as many or as little as you like. My finished cozy measures 7cm high and 12cm wide (24cm round in total) and this fits my reusable coffee mug (which works for cold drinks too), it also fits nicely around a 750ml or 1ltr bottle too. If you want to adapt the size then you can either plus or minus the starting ch, just remember to always make sure it is an odd number in the chain. You can also add more rows if you want to make it taller too.
You can find the pattern for the Honeycomb Bee cozy below. I hope you enjoy making and using these cozies over the summer. See you next week for the release of my first multi sized Tunisian crochet skirt!
