Crochet Banana & Crochet Kiwi - Crochet Tropical Fruit Series

 Tropical Fruit

Last week I introduced you to Lawrence & Lee the Crochet Lemon & Lime from my Tropical Fruits Series.   This week we have two new Tropical Fruit patterns for you - Betsy the Crochet Banana and Katie the Crochet Kiwi.  Both are made from Paintbox Simply Aran yarn in yellow & white and green, brown and white and use 10mm saftey eyes and a small amount of stuffing.  Neither of them use a whole ball of yarn so the rest will be perfect for creating all the Tropical Fruits if you choose to.

Crochet Banana - Betsy

Betsy the Crochet Banana is made in the round from the bottom to the top adding her peeled skin pieces once the main part of her is stuffed.    She makes use of a round of working in the back loops to enable to skin to be crocheted down from the front loops of the same row.  I love that this half peeled look means that you can pretend to have her all closed and then peel her, and this is certainty a game that my kids have played with her.

Betsy is a slightly longer project than some of the other fruit, but even the slowest crocheters should have her made within less than two hours. The only tricky part of her is the short row shaping in one section, which can be tricky if you are not used to it.   However, the video tutorial should help you out with that if you are not familiar with it.

You can find the written pattern below and video tutorial for Betsy the Crochet Banana here.

Crochet Kiwi - Katie

This week our smaller pattern is for Katie the Crochet Kiwi.   She is made starting with the inside of the kiwi.  Then this is crocheted like a lid to the brown skin when stuffing her.    Like Claire the Coconut, she also had her own lid which opens so you can see what  she looks like inside.   Oliver was really desperate for me to make a kiwi and they are really boring to look at from the outside.   The best bit is the fruit so I originally created her without her top.   However, she just looked so sad like this and so she also had her own top like Claire.

Like the other smaller Tropical Fruits, Katie won't take you more than an hour to make and I think she complements Betsy the Banana perfectly.   In fact Kiwi and Banana are some of my favourite fruits to enjoy together.

You can find the written pattern below and video tutorial for  Katie the Crochet Kiwi.
