Crochet Dinosaur Series - Angie Anklyosaurus

Following on from the success of Terry the Pterodactyl's crochet pattern last week, I will be sharing another FREE pattern from the Crochet Dinosaur Series; Angie the Anklyosaurus.

I love how cute Angie looks.   She makes good use of the popcorn stitch for her armoured back, and all her spikes and legs are made in advance and crocheted in as you go.   This means no sewing (apart from the final end at the tip of the tail!)   If like me, the sewing is the part of crochet you like least, then Angie is the dinosaur for you.

I made her with nostrils on the larger size, but completely forgot to add them in when I made her in the smaller size for the playmat, however, I dont' think it makes any difference to how she looks.   I also adjusted the sizes or her horns from the big to smaller dinosaur and I definitely preferred the look of the smaller dinosaur, so these are how you will find them in her instructions.  If you prefer the look of the bigger dinosaur, then simply make all your horns the same size.

You can find the pattern for Angie Anklyosaurus below.

I hope you love making Angie, and look forward to seeing you next week for the release of another dinosaur pattern!

Angie Ankylosaurus

Angie is 3” Tall and 10,5” long when made for the playmat in DK yarn.

If you make Angie in Aran/worsted weight yarn she will be 4” tall and 14” long.

 1.  Materials and Resources

Below is a list of everything you will need to make Angie

  • Double Knit Yarn – 100g balls in the following colours
    • Blue
    • White
  • Small bits of black double knit yarn (for mouths)
  • 2 x 10mm safety eyes (or you can sew them on in black)
  • Stuffing
  • 5 mm hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch marker

All dinosaurs can be made bigger by using Aran/worsted weight yarn and a 3mm hook.

  1. Stitch List

Below is a list of all the stitches (and their abbreviations) featured in this series of patterns.  All terms used are American.

  • Sl st – slip stitch
  • Sc – single crochet
  • Sc inc – single crochet increase
  • Sc dec – single crochet decrease
  • Hdc – half double crochet
  • Ch – chain
  • Popcorn stitch – 4 (or 5) hdc in same stitch, insert hook through first stitch and pull up a loop, then ch 1

Here are a few handy tips to help you with the pattern.

The dinosaurs have no specific gauge, however they need to be as tight as possible to prevent the stuffing from coming out.

 Other Notes

  • All these patterns are worked in continuous rounds, do not sl st at the end of each round. A stitch marker is essential for keeping track of the start of your rows.
  • It is best to stuff as you go with these patterns. Most patterns indicate the best points to stuff, but incase you miss them, it is always best to stuff if you hit a row that gets to 12 stitches.  Any less makes it much harder to stuff large areas.
